Years in the Industry
How did you get started in the Trucking Industry?
I started as a driver in 1999. I used to own a salvage yard and I decided not to pursue that anymore. A friend of mine was a truck driver, he lived in El Paso Texas at the time, and he invited me along on a run to California. So I went on that ride with him and I came back a truck driver. I ran as an owner-operator for 14 years and became a carrier in 2013.
What about MATS is most valuable to you
Networking is by far the most important. In 2017 I started our relationship with Uber Freight then in 2018, I was asked to be featured in several of their promotional videos. This year we started our relationship with Trucker Tools. I was a panelist in their conference event and I’m attending their CAB meetings, where I make several business connections. I’m also contacted by Convoy regularly regarding new app design, and how to make their service integrate better with carriers that share our business model.
What advice do you have for other trucking professionals?
Never compare yourself to your competition. This industry has a reputation for low levels of service and integrity. Set yourself apart by honoring all your commitments, and never overpromising your abilities. Stay connected with like minded people in the industry & develop relationships.
What are the reasons you would recommend MATS?
Face time with people who can get you real answers on how to develop your value in the industry. Seeing new (or old) products or services that can improve your operation. Meeting your peers at a well established event that most people want to attend anyhow.
