The Big Rig Build-Off Returns to the 2026 Mid-America Trucking Show

The Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) is proud to announce the return of the Big Rig Build-Off for the 2026 show, taking place March 26–28, 2026 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, KY.

The Big Rig Build-Off is one of the most anticipated events of MATS, bringing together some of the industry’s most talented and innovative builders in a head-to-head competition of creativity, craftsmanship, and skill. Each builder will unveil a brand-new custom build, competing for a $20,000 grand prize and bragging rights at the largest and longest-running trucking show in the world.

The 2026 lineup features four powerhouse names in custom truck building:

  • Luke Rethwisch, Rethwisch Transport LLC – The returning Big Rig Build-Off champion, Luke leads a new generation of custom truck builds from Tomah, Wisconsin. Blending old-school craftsmanship with modern design, he continues the family’s iconic “Truckin’ for a Cure” mission through their signature pink Peterbilts and the celebrated “Pain Killer” series.
  • James Stegall, Stegall’s Truck Shop – From his Perryville, Missouri shop, James Stegall has become a leading name in custom truck building, known for clean designs and unmatched detail. Following the success of his award-winning “Afternoon Delight” at MATS, Stegall brings his signature craftsmanship and show-winning style to the 2026 Big Rig Build-Off.
  • Randy Menkel, Never Satisfied Builds / J&L Contracting LLC – Led by Project Manager Randy Menkel, Never Satisfied Builds, the custom division of J&L Contracting, transforms elite heavy-haul craftsmanship into show-stopping custom trucks. Known for their flawless fabrication and relentless pursuit of perfection, the team brings its award-winning standard to the Big Rig Build-Off stage.
  • Andrew Ditz, Stickerbilt Customs LLC – Andrew, founder of Stickerbilt Customs and former builder with Chrome Shop Mafia, is renowned for his clean, detail-obsessed approach to custom truck design. Known for flawless craftsmanship and hidden precision, he brings his signature style and dedication to perfection to the Big Rig Build-Off stage.

These elite builders will showcase their latest creations in front of thousands of trucking professionals and enthusiasts in the PKY Lot, located in front of the West Wing. Attendees can view the builds throughout the show and even meet the builders behind these works of art. A panel of expert judges will critique these builds based on creativity, detail, and overall execution. The winner will be announced during the PKY Awards Ceremony on Saturday March 28 at 10AM.

“The Big Rig Build-Off is one of the most exciting events at MATS because it represents the very best of trucking innovation and artistry,” said Toby Young, MATS President. “We’re thrilled to welcome back this fan-favorite competition and showcase the passion and dedication of these outstanding builders.”

The Big Rig Build-Off is free to attend for all registered MATS attendees and is sponsored by First Class Services
