Lewie Pugh began his trucking career as a motor transport officer for the US Army Reserve in 1992. After leaving the military, Pugh became a company driver, and later bought a truck and became an Owner Operator in 1996.
Over his career, Pugh was leased to several motor carriers, but mostly recently, Landstar Ranger. In his 13 years at Landstar Ranger, Pugh pulled flatbed trailers under his company name, Bum Steer Trucking. He received Landstar’s Star of Quality Award, and accumulated more than one million safe, accident-free miles while driving.
Pugh joined OOIDA in 1996, and was later nominated and elected alternate to the OOIDA Board of Directors in 2004. In 2006, Pugh was seated as a director, a position he still holds. In 2018, Pugh was named Executive Vice President of OOIDA.
Pugh regularly travels to Washington DC to meet with lawmakers about issues that affect small business truckers. In 2020, Pugh testified before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation. He additionally serves as the Chairman of the OOIDA Mary Johnston Scholarship Committee.
